Donation Registry
We will not have a traditional gift registry. Instead we are asking for donations to a few of our favorite charities. Jesse’s employer (Google) will match all donations dollar for dollar subject to a few restrictions. See the Details section for more info. That means if you donate $100 then the charity will receive a total of $200.
We will use any tax refunds to make our first anniversary a special event.
The donation registry is hosted at http://www.honeyfund.com/wedding/jkl2014.
Details
- Donations must go through Jesse to be eligible for the Google match.
- Google will match up to $6,000 per year. If we go above this limit then we’ll delay additional contributions until the next year.
- Paypal will take a 2.8% + $0.30 service fee for credit/debit transactions. You can donate by cash or check to avoid the service fee.
The Charities
Bill Foundation
BillFoundation is a dog rescue organization located in Los Angeles. The rescue group is extremely well run and they are dedicated to connecting dogs with good homes. We adopted Curtis through this group and he has brought our whole family tons of joy.
GiveDirectly
GiveDirectly is a radical approach to providing money to poor families in Uganda and Kenya. They use technology to send money to the poorest households that live on as little as $0.65 per day. The recipients are free to use the funds however they like. This puts a lot of trust in people and almost always the trust pays off. The money is used for food, education, fixing roofs, investing in business, and buying livestock. The results are studied and treated scientifically.
OpenDoors
The roots of Eileen’s (Jesse’s mom) fascination with the OpenDoors mission began years ago when she first read “The Hiding Place” by Corrie ten Boom. Corrie, along with her family, was arrested for helping thousands of Jewish men and women and children escape the Nazi genocide during World War II. The family was placed in Ravensbruck Concentration Camp where they suffered much cruelty and hard labor. Corrie survived to tell her story of forgiveness years after her release when she encountered one of the most cruel guards at Ravensbruck. She said that she found God’s love was deeper than any pit of evil or suffering she could face.
For almost 60 years Open Doors has been serving persecuted believers and going into countries where they are at times arrested and made to suffer for their faith. They aide modern day “hiding places,”secret churches and meeting places, provide Bibles and other forms of support to families whose members have been imprisoned. Because of this, Eileen believes that this is one of the bravest, most worthwhile outreaches in the world at this time.
